\u6982\u8981\uff1aThe left atrium is one of the top chambers of the heart. The structure and function of the left atrium is much more complex than those of the left ventricle. The principal role of the left atrium is to modulate left ventricular (LV) filling and optimize stroke volume performance by functioning as a reservoir for pulmonary venous return during ventricular systole, a conduit for pulmonary venous return during early ventricular diastole, and a booster pump that augments ventricular filling during late ventricular diastole. Recently, our laboratory reported critical importance of left atrial (LA) function as a biomarker for risk stratification for a variety of disease conditions such as stroke, invasive treatment of atrial fibrillation and sudden cardiac death. I will discuss some of the ongoing projects in our laboratory.<\/p>\n
