Such individuals, including bacteria and eukaryotic cells, exist in extremely diverse environments, which, in turn, lead to a complex network of inter- and intra-population interactions. Mechanical forces, exerted and experienced by cells, can act as messengers, regulating individual behaviour, however, how they lead to emergent collective behaviours and the emergence of liquid crystalline features in such active systems have not been elucidated yet.
