Hi everyone! This is Rosario, a doctoral student.

Together with Intan, another PhD student, we recently attended the EMBO Workshop in Barcelona, Spain. The EMBO Workshop on Intracellular Mechanics and Organelle Mechanobiology was held from February 16th to 20th at ICFO, located in Castelldefels. It was a highly engaging week-long event where outstanding researchers in the field of mechanobiology gathered to share their knowledge through a combination of short talks and lectures. The material was highly substantive and content-rich.

We also had the opportunity to participate in several lab tours and engage in close discussions with the speakers. These experiences provided us not only with new knowledge but also with valuable insights for our future research. On this occasion, both of us had the chance to present our current research during a poster session. We were very happy to receive direct feedback from Dr. Sirio Dupont and other participants. We believe that this feedback will help us improve our research and broaden our understanding of the field.

In addition, the workshop included a fun and interactive scavenger hunt activity during the poster sessions.  We are especially happy to share that Intan won this activity!Personally, our favorite part of the workshop was an open discussion among researchers on topics such as the use of HeLa cells, research ethics, and animal experimentation. This session was particularly thought-provoking and made us more aware of the responsibility we carry as researchers at every step of our work.

Since it was our first time visiting Barcelona, we also took the opportunity to explore the area, including the beach in Castelldefels and the city center. We visited the famous Sagrada Familia, which, fortunately, had just been completed a few days before our visit, the Castell de Montjuic with the beautiful hill view, and the iconic Park Güell. The conference organizers also arranged cultural activities, including watching the traditional human towers and enjoying local cuisine. It was truly an amazing experience.

Overall, I would say it was a very rewarding experience that will remain in my memories!
