Thank you so much for visiting our laboratory website and blog. I’m Eiji, a PhD candidate.
We (Shinji Deguchi, Takumi Saito, and I) participated in the 10th World Congress of Biomechanics (WCB2026), held in Vancouver, Canada. The congress is held once every four years and brings together researchers in biomechanics and related fields from all over the world to share their latest findings and discuss future directions.
We were honored to have the opportunity to give oral presentations.
First, Shinji presented his work on cellular senescence in response to a mechanical environment, focusing on the connection between aging and the molecular mechanisms related to stress fibers. His talk was highly inspiring, and I learned a great deal from it, especially regarding presentation structure and handling Q&A sessions.
Next, Takumi presented his research on a newly developed tension sensor for measuring mechanical forces in living cells, during a session focused on new biomechanical tools. The session was highly stimulating, and his presentation was outstanding.
Finally, I had the chance to present my own study in the Cell–ECM Interaction session. While I was satisfied with my presentation itself, I felt some regret about my performance during the Q&A. This experience has strengthened my motivation to communicate my research with greater confidence on the international stage.
Takumi and I were also honored to receive the APAB Yamaguchi Medal and the WCB2026 Student Bursary Award, respectively. I believe that Takumi is one of the leading researchers in molecular and cellular biomechanics. I was truly honored to receive the bursary as a representative of students from Japan. I accept that I should take this recognition as a responsibility to continue growing as a researcher.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Young Investigator International Activity Support Program of the MEXT Transformative Research Area (A), Multimodal ECM, for financially supporting my participation in this congress. Finally, we would like to thank all the organizers, session chairs, and all participants for making this a meaningful and memorable experience.
