Hi, it’s Rey. The days for the start of the MEI symposium from February 18, 2025, to February 20th were of utmost enrichment. Starting with many speakers and collaborators such as the Global Center for Medical Engineering and Informatics of Osaka University, Photonics and Life Engineering Research and Development Center, University College London (UCL) and Barts heart Centre and Institute of Cardiovascular Science. Furthermore, having received special guest from international Universities from Taiwan, Thailand and South Korea to develop new friendships and future collaborations between each other giving us the opportunity to enrich our knowledge and seek answers for answers in this wonderful field to contribute to society and the medical community around the world.
During the day on the 18th many talks ranging from cardiovascular science to biomechanics and biomimicry, which gave a lot of fruitful insight on developing more research on these areas. Near the end of the first day, there was a presentation from students that participated at the MEI symposium and a brief description on what their background is and what they are doing in the research field and what they are hoping to achieve. Later on, the evening of that day, we had the opportunity to dine together with many of guess speakers at a Korean restaurant and network while discussing research topics, culture exchange and so much more. It was an eventful and beautiful night ending with beautiful drops of snow coming from the sky.
On the next day on the 19th, more topics were discussed in a broader manner, expanding more on the previous day topics. It was very insightful to see how our colleagues from UCL and Osaka University were advancing these fields and the variety of projects they were handling. At the end of the second day, the students from the MEI symposium were presented with the certificate of completion of this magnificent event.
On the last day of the symposium, the 20th, we got the opportunity to visit the laboratories of Osaka University Suita Campus and present our own lab to the MEI Symposium students. We learned a lot from our colleagues, what they were doing and what they were striving for and the goal they wished to achieve. Finally, we ended presenting our own lab and sharing our insight and knowledge we had with these students. I had the chance to talk to the fellow international students in particular of Thailand and we shared many things related from research to sports, goals, future endeavors and great conversation of different anime that we shared and climate. We are hopeful that these are students, researchers and professors that will help shape a better future, society and passion on the field of biomedical research and medicine.
On the personal note, I loved all the topics given in the MEI symposium, in particular “The role of Sub-endothelium in Mechanically regulating tumor cell extravasation” and “Recent advances in clinical neuromodulation” were among my most favorite topics discussed in the symposium. I personally look forward to working with these great people with amazing ideas from all over the world while sharing great memories and fun times while we sail the seas of science and research. Thank you all for this amazing opportunity.
